Prehistoric Road Runner Page 5

Description

A single Velociraptor makes an entire herd of huge hadrosaurs stampede - sounds like one of those worse documentaries of the last few years. The hadrosaur shown here is the rarely-known Barsboldia, which was believed to have been a Mongolian lambeosaurine. As no skull is known I have reconstructed the alpha male with a large Lambeosaurus-like crest, the females with smaller blue crests and the juveniles with nothing more than a large ridge on the skull. However, a new study in 2011 suggests that Barsboldia is actually a saurolophine, so this depiction is already wrong and outdated. But at least I was aware that hadrosaurs are now believed to have lacked any claws on their hands.
I think I´ve just broken two rules of the real Coyote vs Roadrunner cartoon, that is showing the Road Runner actually being frightened and showing it flapping its wings. I, for one, have never seen a scene where the Road Runner doesn´t smile or uses its wings. Is he supposed to be flightless? I´ve never seen a picture of a real roadrunner flying, either, but they´re stated to still be capable of doing it. As Hollanda luceria is only known from its hindlimbs it isn´t known whether it was capable of flying or not, so my character mostly runs around and only flaps his wings to gain more thrust when jumping away from something.

Even if Barsboldia was a lambeosaurine, a Lambeosaurus-like crest is improbable, as Barsboldia was suggested to be particularly close to Hypacrosaurus (keep in mind that Hypacrosaurus is closer to Corythosaurus & Olorotitan than Lambeosaurus).
