Nope, I´m not talking about that kids movie.
I think we all have had that idea once (or twice, or thrice) after we had seen the documentary "Walking with Dinosaurs" in 1999. A dinosaur documentary of the same format, but with different settings and other prehistoric animals we thought deserve some CGI screentime. Now I have been thinking about this scenario so many times and in so many different forms during the last, dunno, 15 years of my lifetime (with any new discovery changing the cast and sometimes even the setting), so I was wondering what animals would you, other dinosaur enthusiasts of DeviantArt, feature if you could make an updated "Walking with Dinosaurs"? First some basics:
The original WWD had one Triassic episode, two Jurassic episodes and three Cretaceous episodes, which seems like the best principle for such a show, since the Triassic has little to offer apart from "first dinosaurs" and "reptiles that suppressed the first dinosaurs" when you compare it to the diversity of animals in the Jurassic, which still pales in comparison to the many interesting evolutionary paths in the Cretaceous. Of course you don´t have to follow that guideline (you could have two episodes for each period, too). Regarding the number of featured species, the original WWD featured about 6 species per segment (with various "background species" that often just were recycled models or props), though considering the countless discoveries of the last 15 years, I think we can raise that number to a maximum of 10 species per segment, because there are some prehistoric ecosystems whose diversity you just cannot grasp when selecting just 6 species. I´ve had many ideas for WWD-like documentaries focusing on the evolution of a specific branch of animals, but consider this a documentary that is supposed to give people a good overview of the Mesozoic fauna as a whole and maybe the most important evolutionary changes during these ages instead of being biased towards a specific group of animals.
When I´m writing a journal like this, you´ll probably expect me to list my personal line-up for such a documentary, too. Of course I already had the cast in mind for a year or so, with the occasional adaptations here and there, but only now do I consider the 60 chosen species to be the final cast which I won´t alter in any further way (though of course new discoveries still have the last word). Now for the bummer: I have not drawn this line-up yet, so don´t expect to see my list too soon. I created this journal mostly to bury that old review of that WWD movie, and also because I was curious to ask you, the surprising amount of people who follow me:
Feel free to come up with as far as 60 animals which represent the diversity of the Mesozoic and elaborate how the animals would be portrayed (e.g. ecological niche, interactions with other species, appearance; whatever you want). I think it could be interesting to see what are the most popular settings and how different people come up with the same ideas/ how they would portray common ideas in different ways.
Have fun.

A Review 6 Years in the Making
In December 2013 I watched the Walking with Dinosaurs movie and typed up this angry review on my DeviantArt journal:
Tomorrow you will get to witness that review in YouTube video form, with more paleontological corrections, more swearing and more memes.
You also may have noticed that I haven't done anything with this DeviantArt account since its 10 year anniversary back in February. That is because as much as I have enjoyed all these years on DeviantArt, I'm just too lazy to draw anything. Almost all I did was jumping on new discovery bandwagons or putting two different coexisting creatures into a confrontation anyway, so there are plenty o
The OTHER Korean Tarbosaurus Movie
Just for fun I want to test YouTube's new premiere feature. And what better way to do so than with South Korea's most ridiculous dinosaur movie, Speckles the Tarbosaurus/ The Dino King? See you on Sunday.
Tarbosaurus: The Korean movie
"Tarbosaurus: The mightiest ever", is a South Korean dinosaur "documentary" that is just copying from all the great Western dinosaur documentaries like Walking with Dinosaurs, Chased by Dinosaurs, Dinosaur Planet and Jurassic Park 3.
I have a strangely nostalgic connection to this because I watched it almost 10 years ago when it was still known as "Koreanosaurus". But make no mistake, this documentary is baaad. Good thing South Korea never attempted another try at this, right? Right?
A crash course in cheap Jurassic Park rip-offs
Yay I made another video instead of drawing something for this DeviantArt account...
For people that don't feel like watching the entire video:

11:49 - Jurassic Shark Review
20:51 - Jurassic Prey Review (truly the WORST dinosaur movie of all time)
28:50 - The Jurassic Games Review (this one is actually great, thanks to having ~Swordlord3d (https://www.deviantart.com/swordlord3d) on the animation team)
